Leading Chinese Teams, Chery Rely Fleet Finishes the Dakar Rally

On Jan. 16, local time, after 15 stages of arduous competition, the 2010 Dakar Rally drew to an end in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. This Dakar Rally started on Jan. 1, 2010 and lasted for 16 days, with total length covering 9030km, among which special stages covering a length of 4810km. After finishing the 707km stage in the last day, the Spanish driver, Sainz won the championship of the car group with a result of 47h10m, and France’s Despres won the Dakar motorcycling title with a result of 51h10m37s.

During this rally, Chinese teams who participated with the strongest lineup ever had also achieved outstanding results. Drivers Lu Ningjun and Jiang Yaohuan from Chery Rely Fleet finished the rally with 78h16m47s and 78h59m13m respectively and ranked 28th and 29th, the drivers of Great Wall and Cool Car Time, Zhou Yong and Zhu Jinzhong ranked 33rd and 44th respectively with total results of 82h44m12s and 108h30m7s, and Su Wenmin and Wei Guanghui who represented Chinese motorcycling team for the first time ranked 74th and 80th respectively. Compared with the 40% retirement rate, there was only one Chinese driver retired from the race. And together, the Chinese teams staged a “Chinese Show” with outstanding performances, becoming a highlight of the rally.

Chery Rely Fleet led all Chinese teams as the vanguard withstanding the pressure. Its two drivers, Lu Ningjun and Jiang Yaohuan gave very steady performances. It was already the 6th participation of Lu Ningjun, the No. 1 driver of the fleet, so he conducted technical coordination of the whole team with his rich experience，led Rely Fleet to achieve outstanding results as a key figure, and created his best record in history. Jiang Yaohuan, who was participating in the Rally for the first time appeared to be a dark horse. He smoothed out the difficulties, like flat tire, losing his way, collision and bad communication, and gave excellent performances in several stages with proficient skills and psychological qualities, following Lu closely in top 30 and drawing great attention. During the race, the racing vehicle of Rely Fleet, Rely X5 also gave outstanding performances. Its excellent quality and stability helped the team conquer many dangerous legs, including desert, stony and gobi roads. Although without the assistance of the T4 service vehicle in the dangerous situation, it also gave drivers the confidence to overcome all difficulties.

As a top-class race in the world, Dakar does not only challenge the comprehensive abilities of drivers and performances of the vehicle, it also challenges the cooperation and perseverance of the whole team. While proving the technical strength of independent Chinese brands to the world, Chery Rely fleet also perfectly interpreted Chery’s brand spirit of “surmounting itself and challenging the extremity”. In the post-crisis times, some senior teams retired from the race successively. However, Chery kept advancing despite the adverse situation and finished the rally in the manner of a pioneer and with a solely “made-in-China” racing vehicle, thus reflecting the courage and boldness of Chinese brands, and inspiring and encouraging all Chinese people. We believe, Chery will shine more brilliantly after the test of Dakar!
