Global Collaboration
The partnership between Chery and UNICEF supports UNICEF's global education programme and country education programmes
in China, South Africa, Türkiye, and Mexico, focusing on improving access to education, enhancing learning outcomes, and
supporting skills development for children and adolescents.
Mexico
In Mexico, the partnership focuses on preventing and responding to school violence, improving literacy skills for indigenous students, and supporting children affected by natural hazards. A key initiative is the "Literacy and Bilingualism" Programme, which has reached more than 15,000 girls and boys in three states in Mexico:Chiapas, Chihuahua and Guerrero. Following Hurricane Otis, where more than 200,000 students' learning was disrupted, Chery supported UNICEF in reopening schools so that children could return to school and have safe and healthy learning environments.
South Africa
In South Africa, Chery supports UNICEF's education programmes on early childhood development (ECD), foundational literacy and numeracy, as well as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. Additionally, realizing the relevance of emerging technology with the future of work, the partnership also aims to equip young people with essential skills for the future workforce through innovative training initiatives, including coding, robotics, and drone piloting.
Türkiye
With nearly 4 million children affected by devastating earthquakes in 2023, Chery's contribution supported UNICEF in addressing the educational needs of children, including refugee children in Southeastern Türkiye. Temporary learning spaces, educational materials, and psychosocial support were provided to the children most in need.
The partnership also supports identifying and reintegrating out-of-school children and adolescents into the education system – enrolling 19,000 refugee children in school, and mitigating child labour risk for nearly 17,000 adolescents, with over 2,000 receiving vocational training.
China
In China, Chery supports UNICEF on initiatives to improve ECD, promote STEM education, and provide more inclusive environments for children with disabilities or special learning needs. One impactful initiative is the STEM for Rural Adolescents project, which has encouraged around 530,000 adolescents, including around 265,000 girls, to participate in STEM extra-curricular activities through science camps, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences.
To promote a more inclusive learning environment, the partnership also helped create an inclusive education model and provide training for teachers, ensuring children with disabilities receive the tailored support they need to thrive in pre-schools.
